1977- 1981Mrs. Teasdale moved into the Mansion with one son, and she moved out with three. When the family moved in, there was no furniture in the second-floor living quarters, a problem that previous families had faced when moving into the Mansion. With small children about the home, the need was more apparent for a modern security system. Around-the-clock protection by the Highway Patrol and Capitol security officers became a regular part of life at the Mansion. She had little time to sit for a portrait, but hers was completed in 1996. Governor and Mrs. Teasdale resided in Kansas City, Missouri, prior to his election. They had three sons. Billy was two when they moved into the Mansion, and John Patrick and Kevin were both born during the Governor's term. It had been several years since a child under two years of age had lived in the Mansion.
